I’m Art by Jennifer Harris—a professional mixed media artist creating custom and original artwork for homes, businesses, and private collections.
I started selling commissions when I was 18, but my journey as an artist goes back much further. My work spans from abstract, layered compositions to detailed, realistic portraits. It’s my life’s work to explore and express experience through art, and I want to share that with you.

A Lifelong Journey in Painting and Fine Art
I started painting when I was very young. Growing up in my mother’s studio, I lived in the kind of environment where creating was part of everyday life. I was inspired by my surroundings and encouraged to keep exploring and finding my own way of working from an early age.
Knowing it was something I had to pursue, I started teaching when I was 14. I went on to study Fine Arts at university, where I graduated with my BFA in Fine Arts with a specialization in Art Education, all while continuing to take on custom projects for clients across Canada, the U.S., and even Europe.
Art is something I’ll always stay committed to, both personally and professionally.
The Artistic Vision Behind Art by Jennifer Harris
Whether it’s a detailed landscape on canvas or a portrait on a book page, my work takes inspiration from who I’m working with and what I’m working on.

A Signature Approach to Mixed Media Artwork
Mixed media artwork combines two or more different materials. Acrylic on newspaper is one such example I’m drawn to. The newspaper adds an uneven texture that shows through the paint, and the visible fragments of text and headlines add context or contrast.
What I love about multimedia is how it brings together story and spontaneity into a cohesive whole. There’s visual and conceptual complexity that’s hard to achieve with a single medium.
A Collaborative Approach to Custom Artwork
I see every custom artwork commission as an opportunity to immerse myself in a personal story and vision. A face is a reflection of lived experience that words alone don’t always do justice to. My job as the artist is to give expression to those kinds of unspoken details.
That’s why my process is collaborative. I’ll ask thoughtful questions about your piece and what you want it to convey, with a genuine interest in understanding the meaning behind the image.
